Daegu plans multi-purpose dome stadium in Duryu Park

Daegu Metropolitan City has announced plans to construct a multi-purpose sports and performance dome stadium in the Duryu Park area of Dalseo-gu. The city is applying for a government competition hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to secure national funding for the project.

The proposed facility is designed to accommodate a base of 20,000 spectators, with variable seating allowing for a maximum capacity of up to 28,000. This scale is intended to host international indoor sports competitions, such as professional basketball and e-sports, as well as major concerts by top-tier artists.

Daegu officials selected the site near the Universiade Tennis Court due to its excellent public transport accessibility and the ability to utilize city-owned land, which eliminates land acquisition costs. The estimated construction cost is 500 billion won. To minimize the burden on the city budget, the project will focus on attracting private investment by integrating commercial facilities such as hotels, shopping malls, and convention centers within the complex.

If selected for the government project, the city aims to complete feasibility studies and regulatory easing by 2029, with construction scheduled to begin in 2031.
