Daegu prepares for World Masters Athletics Championships

Daegu is preparing to host the 2026 World Masters Athletics Championships, an international event featuring 7,522 athletes from 106 countries. Mayor Chu Kyung-ho recently inspected the Daegu Stadium and related facilities to ensure readiness for the competition, focusing on safety, traffic management, and heatwave response measures.

The championships, organized by Daegu City and the World Masters Athletics (WMA) federation, will feature 34 disciplines across various locations, including Daegu Stadium and Gyeongsan Citizens' Stadium. The event is scheduled to run from the opening ceremony on the 21st through next month on the 3rd. In addition to athletic competitions, the city plans to host cultural programs including K-pop performances and traditional Korean culture experiences to integrate tourism with the sporting event.
