A resident in her 60s discovered approximately 188,819 square meters (roughly 57,000 pyeong) of land in Gunwi-gun, Daegu, registered under her late father's name. The discovery occurred after the resident, identified as Mr. Seo, visited the Dong-gu District Office in Daegu to handle other civil matters.

Upon receiving guidance from an official regarding the ‘Ancestral Land Search’ administrative service, the resident was able to verify the existence of the property. The land, which consists of forest area, has an officially assessed value of at least 100 million won.

The ‘Ancestral Land Search’ is a nationwide free administrative service that allows descendants to search for land owned by ancestors or themselves through the national land information system. The service can be accessed online via the National Spatial Information Integrated Platform or by visiting local district offices. Requirements for application include providing family relationship certificates or family registers to prove inheritance and death status.
