Daegu to host forum on youth population outflow

The Population Welfare Association and the Population Strategy Committee will co-host the ‘2026 Population Issue Daegu Forum’ at Kyungpook National University on the 26th. The event aims to diagnose the causes of the continuous outflow of young people from Daegu and discuss policy alternatives to encourage regional settlement.

Data from the Daegu Population Crisis Response Center indicates that as of June this year, the youth population in Daegu stood at 554,402, accounting for 23.6% of the total population. During the first half of the year, there was a net outflow of 2,332 young residents.

Discussions will focus on improving settlement conditions, such as providing high-quality jobs and stable living foundations. Participants include representatives from government, academia, and the private sector, who will examine the issue through the lens of growth potential and future opportunities rather than just job numbers.
