Daegu Transportation Corporation candidate faces hearing over subway response

The Daegu City Council held a personnel hearing for Han Geun-su, the candidate for president of the Daegu Transportation Corporation. During the session, council members criticized the corporation's inadequate response to a recent service disruption on Subway Line 3. Specific criticisms included a 51-minute delay in issuing emergency disaster texts and the failure of the current president to attend a city briefing regarding the incident.

Candidate Han expressed regret over the delayed notification, explaining that internal guidelines require a one-hour stoppage before sending safety alerts, which contributed to the delay in communication. Regarding the aging rolling stock of Line 1, Han suggested that the city should seek increased national government funding to support vehicle replacement, noting that Daegu's trains are used for longer periods than those in Seoul. He also addressed the significant annual losses caused by free transit for seniors, stating that national subsidies are necessary to mitigate the financial burden on local corporations.
