Daegu University Central Museum hosts special exhibition on disability history

The Daegu University Central Museum is hosting a special exhibition titled ‘Hwa-i-bu-dong: Difference and Harmony, Creating the World’ at its Gyeongsan campus. The event commemorates the 100th anniversary of the promulgation of Hunmaengjeongeum (the first Korean Braille system) and the 70th anniversary of the university’s founding.

Organized in collaboration with the Songam Braille Library and supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the exhibition is divided into four sections. It explores the history of disability perception in the Joseon Dynasty, the development of modern special education through figures like Rosetta Hall and Park Du-seong, and the achievements of individuals with disabilities in politics, arts, and independence movements. The final section offers interactive experiences, such as Braille testing and postcard making.

The exhibition is open to the public for free until October 30.
