Daejeon advances defense, railway, and wood industry initiatives

Daejeon is actively pursuing several regional development and industrial initiatives. The city held a National Assembly forum to discuss the necessity of designating Daejeon as a specialized cluster for defense materials, components, and equipment. The goal is to establish a complete local supply chain by linking the advanced technologies of government-funded research institutes with local companies and major anchor firms.

In the transportation sector, the Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) hosted the ‘Future Railway Forum’ to discuss the upcoming integration of high-speed railways scheduled for September. The forum addressed the impact of railway integration on public benefits, the future of the industry, and how to respond to shifts in AI and mobility.

Additionally, the 2026 Korea Wood Industry Expo has commenced at the Daejeon Convention Center. The four-day event aims to promote wood as an eco-friendly resource for carbon neutrality and seeks to establish Daejeon as a hub for wood industry, wooden architecture, and wood culture.
