Daejeon City launches crackdown on overloaded vehicles
Daejeon City has announced a concentrated enforcement period for overloaded vehicles, running from October 26 to November 15. In collaboration with the Land Management Agency, Chungnam Provincial Government, and local police, the initiative aims to prevent road damage and major traffic accidents caused by excessive weight.
The crackdown targets vehicles exceeding an axle load of 10 tons or a total weight of 40 tons. Violators face fines of up to 3 million won depending on the severity and frequency of the offense. Deliberately obstructing enforcement officers can result in up to one year of imprisonment or a fine of up to 10 million won.
City officials noted that even a minor 1-ton excess in axle load can cause road damage equivalent to 110,000 passenger cars passing over it. To increase effectiveness, authorities will monitor detour routes and city boundaries frequently used to evade inspections, and will conduct joint operations near busy agricultural and marine product wholesale markets.
