Daejeon City promotes bread culture as major tourism asset
Daejeon City is launching a series of initiatives to transform its local bread culture into a major tourism asset under the brand ‘Republic of Korea’s Bread Hub, Daejeon’. The city aims to encourage longer visitor stays and increased local spending by linking bakery visits with tourism, accommodation, and regional commerce.
Key programs include the opening of a new Daejeon Travel Lounge branch near Yuseong Spa Station in October, which will serve as a hub for bread tour information, photo zones, and merchandise sales. The city is also expanding its ‘Bread City Tour’, a weekend bus service that visits representative bakeries, with updated routes and special festival connections starting in October.
Additional promotional activities include the ‘Kumdor’s Daejeon Bread Expedition’ mission tour, discounts on major local attractions and accommodations, and various SNS events. The city plans to analyze the performance of these programs to further develop participatory bread-themed tourism content through 2027.
