Daejeon City to implement traffic controls for Daedeok Bridge reconstruction
Daejeon City has announced partial traffic controls on Daedeok-daero starting October 19, 2026, to facilitate the reconstruction of the old Daedeok Bridge. The project is being conducted in conjunction with the construction of Daejeon Subway Line 2 (tram) to ensure structural safety for the new transit line.
The reconstruction targets a 360-meter section of the 45-year-old bridge connecting Mannyeon-dong and Doryong-dong. The partial control is scheduled to last approximately 31 months, ending on May 12, 2029. During this period, five of the ten lanes will be dedicated to construction, leaving five lanes for vehicle traffic. Specifically, lanes toward the Daedeok Research Complex will be reduced to three, while lanes toward Dunsan-dong will be reduced to two.
The start date was moved from October 15 to October 19 to avoid overlapping with large-scale local events, such as the Daejeon Bread Festival, which could exacerbate traffic congestion. To minimize disruption, the city will deploy traffic safety facilities and signalers, and will manage construction vehicle movement during commuting hours. Drivers are encouraged to use detour routes including Dunsan-daero, Daehak-ro, and Expo-ro.
