Daejeon launches Ontong Daejeon 2.0 to boost local economy

Daejeon Metropolitan City will launch ‘Ontong Daejeon 2.0’ on September 1 to revitalize the local economy and provide tangible benefits to citizens. The initiative aims to transform the existing local currency system into an ‘AI citizen life economy platform’ that integrates various services, including policy subsidies, transportation, culture, and welfare.

Key features include a base cashback rate of 10% on monthly spending up to 300,000 KRW. To stimulate consumption, the cashback rate will increase to 15% in September during the Chuseok holiday. From October to November, vulnerable groups and users of traditional markets or youth-led businesses will receive a 13% rate. Additionally, ‘good price businesses’ will receive a constant 15% cashback through December.

The platform will also allow citizens to manage 21 different types of policy subsidies through a single app. It will incorporate mileage rewards for walking, using public transportation, and visiting public facilities. For small business owners, the city will provide commercial district analysis services using payment data and expand digital payment options like QR codes to reduce management burdens.
