Daejeon Metropolitan Council approves 2025 fiscal settlements
The Daejeon Metropolitan Council Budget and Accounts Special Committee has reviewed and approved the fiscal year 2025 settlement plans for both the Daejeon Metropolitan City and the Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education. The settlement proposals, which include reserve fund expenditures and fund settlements, are scheduled for final approval at the third plenary session on September 21.
Regarding the Office of Education, the budget amount was 2.927 trillion KRW, a 2.8% increase from the previous year. Council members raised concerns regarding the effectiveness of school meal inspections, the underutilization of budgets for contract teacher welfare, and the need for better support for students in regions with weaker educational environments. They also emphasized the importance of addressing gaps in subject availability under the high school credit system.
For the Daejeon Metropolitan City settlement, the total budget for general and special accounts was 8.217 trillion KRW, a 10.5% increase from the previous year. During deliberations, committee members scrutinized the efficiency of policy implementation, noting issues such as low execution rates for self-reliance success projects and the need for more realistic budget allocations for elderly welfare and senior center support. Discussions also covered urban development, cultural facility improvements, and the necessity of balanced regional development.
