Daejeon Office of Education to launch teacher protection system
The Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education is establishing a new dedicated body, the ‘Educational Activity Protection Officer’, to protect teachers from rights violations and malicious complaints. Scheduled to launch on September 23, the office will serve as a control tower under the direct supervision of Superintendent Oh Seok-jin.
The new system features a 14-member team including supervisors, lawyers, and counselors. It will implement a seven-step ‘one-stop accompaniment support’ model. Once a report is filed, a dedicated supervisor is assigned, and a rapid response team—comprising legal and psychological experts—can be dispatched to the scene to provide assistance with investigations, legal matters, or conflict mediation.
This initiative aims to shift the responsibility of handling malicious complaints from individual teachers to the institution. The project, which has an estimated budget of approximately 1.5 billion won, also includes campaigns to foster a culture of mutual respect among students, parents, and educators.
