Daejeon to host 8th Special Visual Effects Film Festival in September

Daejeon Metropolitan City, in collaboration with the Daejeon Information & Culture Industry Promotion Agency, will host the 8th Daejeon Special Visual Effects Film Festival (DFX) from September 17 to 19. Under the slogan ‘Unreal on Real, Immersion into the Virtual,’ the event is transitioning into an industry-focused festival designed to connect creators, companies, and advanced technologies such as visual effects (VFX) and artificial intelligence (AI).

The program includes the DFX OTT Awards on the opening day, featuring 12 categories across technical and acting awards. A ‘DFX Tech Show’ will be held at Megabox Daejeon Shinsegae, where industry experts from companies like DreamWorks and Dexter Studios will share technical insights. To support the industry ecosystem, the festival will host a project pitching session with 100 million won in prize money for six selected teams, alongside an AI-based video content competition offering 48 million won in prizes.

Film screenings have been expanded to include 22 works, including six feature films and 16 short films. The city aims to establish Daejeon as a central hub for the special visual effects industry by leveraging its existing production infrastructure and scientific capabilities.
