DaejeonSAT micro-satellite prepares for Nuri rocket launch

Daejeon City has completed the preliminary preparation procedures for the launch of ‘DaejeonSAT’, a micro-satellite developed through a public-private partnership involving local space companies. The satellite is scheduled to be launched in October 2025 aboard the fifth Nuri rocket.

The project aims to allow local companies to verify their technologies and components in a real space environment, helping them secure the flight heritage necessary to enter the global satellite and space component markets. Participating companies include StepLab, which leads the project; CSO, which developed the electro-optical camera; EPSTech, responsible for the power system; MID, which developed high-capacity space memory technology; and Contec, providing ground station support and control.

Daejeon City plans to utilize the high-resolution (1.5m) imagery captured by DaejeonSAT for public services such as urban management, environmental monitoring, and disaster response. Additionally, the satellite will serve as an educational tool for nurturing future space industry talent.
