Daewoo E&C to modernize Karakum Canal in Turkmenistan

Daewoo E&C has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Turkmenistan Water Resources Committee to cooperate on the modernization of a 250km section of the Karakum Canal. The agreement was reached during the Korea-Turkmenistan Business Forum.

The Karakum Canal is a massive irrigation and water supply system spanning approximately 1,100km. Modernization efforts are increasingly necessary to ensure efficient water management and stable supplies for agriculture, industry, and domestic use in Turkmenistan.

This move expands Daewoo E&C’s presence in the country following its 2023 contract for a mineral fertilizer plant, which is scheduled for completion in 2028. During the forum, Daewoo E&C Chairman Jung Won-ju met with President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to discuss further infrastructure and industrial projects in the region.
