Daewoong Pharmaceutical's Fexuclue shows 92% Helicobacter pylori eradication rate

Daewoong Pharmaceutical has announced that its gastroesophageal reflux disease treatment, Fexuclue (fexuprazan hydrochloride), achieved a 92.0% eradication rate for Helicobacter pylori in a recent study. The research, conducted by professors Kim Nam-hoon and Kang Seok-in at Ilsan Paik Hospital, focused on 93 patients with no prior eradication experience.

The study utilized a concomitant therapy involving Fexuclue and three antibiotics—clarithromycin, amoxicillin, and metronidazole—administered over 10 days. Among patients who completed the treatment, the eradication rate was 92.0%, while the rate for all registered patients was 90.3%. Notably, the treatment achieved an 80.0% success rate even in patients with clarithromycin resistance mutations, suggesting a viable alternative to traditional proton pump inhibitor (PPI) based therapies.

The findings were presented at the 32nd Japanese Helicobacter Society academic conference and published in the official journal of the Japanese Gastroenterological Association, ‘Digestion’. The study also confirmed the safety of the regimen, reporting no serious adverse events or liver function abnormalities.
