DAF Trucks and Einride partner to commercialize Level 4 autonomous trucks
DAF Trucks and technology company Einride have announced a partnership to commercialize Level 4 autonomous electric trucks. The collaboration aims to integrate the ‘Einride Driver’ autonomous driving system into DAF’s electric vehicle platform.
Supported by the Dutch research institute TNO, the companies will work to define and test the necessary interfaces to ensure safe and scalable autonomous operations. The project focuses on SAE Level 4 automation, where vehicles can perform recurring driving tasks within predefined operational domains without human intervention. This technology is intended to support logistics operations by allowing drivers to focus on high-value tasks.
Initial testing and validation of key interfaces are expected to begin soon, with the goal of integrating and commissioning the Einride autonomous software into DAF trucks by 2027. The partners are also working with type-approval authorities to ensure the platform meets regulatory requirements for future use on public roads.
