Dafydd Owain releases film accompanying award-winning album

Musician Dafydd Owain has released a film titled ‘Ymarfer Byw (I’r Byw)’ to accompany his award-winning album, Ymarfer Byw. The album recently won Welsh Album of the Year at the National Eisteddfod and Long Record of the Year at Gwobrau’r Selar.

Owain stated that he did not originally intend to write the album, which emerged from a period of significant emotional difficulty and a search for self-identity. The film, produced by Darlun, is shot almost entirely in black and white to reflect the themes of grief and mental health explored in the music.

The film combines a live performance recorded at the Caernarfon Gallery in October 2025 with personal reflections. It is divided into three parts: ‘Haunted’, ‘Cwmpawds’, and ‘Cheshire Oaks’.
