Dag Heward-Mills and Lighthouse Chapel International face documentary allegations
A Belgian documentary investigating Go Church has raised serious allegations against Bishop Dag Heward-Mills and Lighthouse Chapel International. The investigation features testimony from two former senior figures, Emmanuel Oko Mensah and Lawrence “Larry” Odonkor, who now criticize the church leadership.
Emmanuel Oko Mensah stated in the documentary that he was “absolutely. One hundred per cent” brainwashed during his time at the church, explaining that the institution's pressure is effective because the pastor, the church, and God are perceived as a single entity. However, records show that during his previous consecration, Oko Mensah publicly praised Heward-Mills, describing him as a “patient father” and expressing gratitude for the opportunities provided to him.
Lawrence Odonkor has made severe accusations, alleging that Heward-Mills uses his intelligence for evil and that the core issues within the church are fame and money. Odonkor’s own legal history is noted in the report; in April 2023, a court in Madagascar convicted him in absentia for breach of trust involving church funds and property, resulting in a two-year prison sentence and a requirement to pay 75 million Malagasy Ariary in damages. While Odonkor disputes this judgment, his appeals were reportedly rejected in 2024 and 2025. In a separate Ghanaian case, an Accra Circuit Court acquitted him of dishonest appropriation in September 2023, though the Attorney-General subsequently appealed.
