Dagmar Havlová grants Václav Havel license to Prague Municipal Library

Dagmar Havlová has announced that she will grant a free license for the works of Václav Havel to the Prague Municipal Library. This decision aims to ensure the long-term preservation and public accessibility of the former president’s literary and political legacy.

The library, which was recently renamed the ‘First Presidential Library’ to respect Havlová’s wishes, intends to focus on reaching younger generations who may only know Havel through history textbooks. Tomáš Řehák, Director of the Prague Municipal Library, stated that the institution accepted this significant commitment immediately upon being approached by Havlová.

This development follows a period of instability for the former Václav Havel Library, which saw the withdrawal of major sponsors and leadership changes. Further details regarding the collaboration between the library and the former first lady are expected to be disclosed during a press conference on November 24.
