Dagrofa identifies 50 small towns for potential grocery stores
Dagrofa has identified more than 50 small towns in Denmark as potential locations for new, citizen-supported grocery stores. The initiative aims to bolster local commerce and social cohesion by preventing the centralization of services in larger cities.
Currently, Dagrofa operates 124 stores involving local citizen participation across the country, primarily in North and West Jutland. Identified locations for potential new stores include Ingstrup, Vrensted, Bremdal, Skave, Oure, Knebel, Annisse Nord, Valløby, and Eskilstrup.
CEO Tomas Pietrangeli noted that securing final financing remains a significant challenge, as banks are often hesitant to lend to projects in smaller towns. To support these efforts, Dagrofa offers a village pool that can contribute up to 600,000 DKK to individual projects, with a total fund of 8 million DKK allocated for 2026 and 2027.
