Dahab Expo opens in Damascus to support Syrian industry
The third edition of the Dahab Expo for footwear, clothing, leather goods, and production supplies has launched at the Damascus Exhibition City for the autumn/winter 2026 season. Sponsored by the Ministry of Economy and Industry, the event features over 160 companies representing more than 500 brands across a 10,000-square-meter area, with international participation from countries including Turkey, China, Lebanon, and Egypt.
Industrialists participating in the exhibition have called for increased protection of national products and easier access to raw materials to boost competitiveness and export capabilities. Assad Kajoun, President of the Hama Chamber of Industry, noted that the footwear sector has faced significant challenges due to imported goods, which previously led to the closure of over 3,000 workshops. He highlighted that recent adjustments to customs duties on imported footwear have provided partial support to local manufacturers.
Mohammad Yassin Houria, Assistant Minister of Economy and Industry, stated that such specialized exhibitions are part of a broader strategy to revitalize the local economy and restore the Syrian industry's position in global markets. The ministry has committed to studying the challenges faced by manufacturers to develop practical solutions and improve the industrial working environment.
