Dahlem (Berlin) election rally debates AfD ban and wealth tax
A local election rally was held in the Dahlem community hall in Berlin, drawing about 100 attendees, most of them older white women. Speakers from the Greens, the Left, the SPD and CDU candidate Christoph Wegener addressed the crowd.
The discussion focused on the prospect of an AfD ban and the party’s stance on a proposed luxury‑villas wealth tax. Wegener, speaking for the CDU, warned that a ban could "strengthen" the AfD and said the party would "unequivocally reject" any cooperation with it. He added, "We must solve the problems that have driven people to vote for the AfD – downward‑mobility anxieties and the issue of migration."
Opposition figures argued for a ban and called for the Federal Constitutional Court to examine the AfD’s constitutionality. The event highlighted differing views within the centre‑left coalition and the CDU on how to address far‑right growth and fiscal policy.
