Daiei Sangyo selected to manage Daika Market redevelopment facility
Kitakyushu City has selected Daiei Sangyo Co., Ltd. as the preferred negotiator to manage and operate the Daika Ichibankan facility, a key component of the Daika Market redevelopment project. The agreement involves the purchase of the second-floor commercial area, primarily for dining, and the third and fourth-floor parking levels for a total price of 810 million yen.
The redevelopment aims to modernize the historic Daika Market, known as the ‘kitchen of Kitakyushu,’ by addressing issues such as aging infrastructure, flood risks, and fire safety. While the first floor will maintain traditional market functions for existing businesses, the second floor will be transformed into a dining hub featuring approximately 600 seats across four themed areas to showcase local food culture.
Daiei Sangyo, a local real estate company based in Kitakyushu, intends to focus on long-term regional revitalization rather than short-term returns. The company’s plan integrates dining and parking management to support visitor attraction and ensure the market’s cultural legacy continues for the next century.
