Daihatsu rolls out upgraded Hijet Cargo van in Japan and unveils new models at Indonesia auto show

On 4 June 2026, Daihatsu launched a partially revised version of its lightweight commercial vehicle Hijet Cargo in Japan. The model features a sliding‑door body, a 660 cc three‑cylinder engine (with a turbo option), 2WD/4WD choices, and an expanded LED lighting package. New safety systems under the “Smart Assist” banner include pedestrian and cyclist detection at intersections. Prices range from ¥1.155 million to ¥1.793 million, a modest increase of about ¥100 000 that dealers say most customers accept. Delivery times are roughly one to two months.

Separately, Daihatsu announced that its Indonesian subsidiary PT Astra Daihatsu Motor will exhibit at the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show 2026 in Jakarta from 29 July to 9 August. The stand will showcase 16 vehicles, including the K‑VISION concept with an e‑SMART HYBRID system, the e‑ATRAI electric model launched in Japan, the Midget X concept, a hybrid Rocky SUV, and locally‑targeted LCGC‑compliant models such as a revised Sigra, a seven‑seat MPV, and a special‑edition Terios. The exhibition underscores Daihatsu’s aim to broaden affordable, low‑carbon vehicle options in Indonesia and the wider ASEAN region.
