Daihatsu updates Tanto kei wagon and maintains niche model lineup

Daihatsu has released a minor update for its Tanto, a popular kei super height wagon. The update introduces a new special edition called the ‘Daily Tool’, which features black accents on the door mirrors, outer handles, and 14-inch aluminum wheels.

Additional styling options include the ‘Daily Tool Style’ and the ‘Urban Tough Style’ for the Tanto Funcross model. The update also introduces new body colors, such as Smooth Gray Mica Metallic, and enhances the Smart Assist safety suite. Improvements to the safety system include enhanced detection for crossing bicycles, vehicles in opposing lanes during right turns, and pedestrians at intersections, with the pedestrian detection speed limit increased from 60 km/h to 80 km/h.

In broader company news, Daihatsu continues to maintain a unique position in the Japanese market with highly specialized models. This includes the Mira e:S, which remains one of the few new vehicles available for under 1 million yen, and the Atrai Deck Van, a versatile commercial vehicle designed for outdoor enthusiasts. Meanwhile, the production of the Copen, a two-seater open-top kei car, is scheduled to end in August 2026.
