Daily Graphic celebrates 76 years of Ghanaian media history
The Daily Graphic marks its 76th anniversary, tracing its origins back to October 2, 1950, in the Gold Coast, now known as Ghana. The publication introduced advanced printing methods and a pictorial tabloid format that contrasted with the traditional broadsheets of the era.
Historically, the newspaper was noted for its revolutionary content, featuring crisp news reports with individual bylines, dedicated sports sections, and educational feature articles. This approach challenged the existing media landscape, which had previously focused on the opinions of the country's elite. Despite attempts by rival publications, such as The Spectator, to have the colonial government suppress the paper or to organize boycotts through the Joint Provincial Council of Chiefs, the Daily Graphic maintained its presence in the Ghanaian media landscape.
