Daily Mail accused of stalking woman mistaken for Meg White

The British tabloid Daily Mail has been accused of stalking and misidentifying a woman in Detroit, falsely claiming she was Meg White, the former drummer of the rock duo The White Stripes.

According to reports from The Guardian, the publication secretly followed and photographed a woman—who is actually a friend of White—and published over a dozen images of her socializing outside a restaurant. The article, written by senior reporter Joe Hutchison, claimed to have discovered the “reclusive female music megastar” and promised to reveal her “secret new life.”

Sources indicate that even after the woman informed the newspaper that it had mistaken her identity, the publication proceeded with the story. The Daily Mail has since quietly removed the article and photographs from its website without issuing a formal correction or editor's note. Meg White has maintained a private life in Michigan since the band disbanded in 2011.
