Daily movement strategies to increase physical activity

Integrating physical activity into daily routines is an effective way to increase movement for those with limited time for traditional workouts. Experts suggest that combining movement with everyday tasks, such as using a walking pad while answering emails or watching television, can help increase daily step counts and reduce sedentary time.

Sports scientist Felipe Isidro emphasizes that while short bursts of activity—such as a 10-minute walk after meals, taking stairs instead of elevators, or taking active breaks during work—are beneficial for digestion, metabolism, and circulation, they serve primarily as an entry point for those previously inactive. While these small movements, or ‘Rafagas’, are significant for health maintenance, they do not fully replace intensive cardiovascular training for those seeking to optimize fitness levels.
