Daily Pilates and Walking Boost Flexibility and Longevity for Adults Over 60

Experts in Pilates emphasise that flexibility does not inevitably decline after age 60. They recommend deep, whole‑body exercises performed three to five times a week or daily. As instructor Portia Page told Fit&Well, “From age 60, flexibility can be improved with deep whole‑body exercises performed three to five times a week or daily.” Consistent stretching and strengthening of the core and glutes are said to maintain autonomy and reduce injury risk.

Longevity researcher Dan Buettner adds that ordinary walking supplies most of the daily physical activity needed for health. He noted, “Walking gives you 90% of the activity you need in a day,” and highlighted its prevalence in Blue‑Zone communities such as Okinawa, Sardinia and Nicoya. Regular walking is linked to better cardiovascular, metabolic and mental health, supporting mobility, balance and weight control for older adults.
