Daimaru Umeda announces major renovation with new store concept

Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Stores has announced ‘Atelier Future’, a new store concept for a large-scale renovation of its Daimaru Umeda location in Osaka. The project aims to create a space where diverse interests and cultures intersect, moving beyond traditional department store frameworks.

The renovation will be conducted in stages, with a grand opening planned for around spring 2030. Following the renovation of the basement food floor in March 2026, the fourth, fifth, and ninth floors are scheduled for a preliminary opening in spring 2027.

Key floor updates include:

• 4th Floor (Beauty & Fashion Goods): The cosmetics section will move from the second floor to the fourth, expanding its area by approximately 1.5 times. It will feature luxury flagship stores and enhanced beauty services.

• 5th Floor (Global Fashion): A genderless fashion floor focusing on high-end select shops, creator brands, and street fashion, alongside new cafes from the Kansai region.

• 9th Floor (Cross Culture): A next-generation entertainment floor dedicated to fan cultures, including K-POP, VTubers, and 2.5D content. This floor will also feature an expanded Daimaru Museum, intended to become one of the largest event halls in the Kansai region.
