Daimiel and Colmenar Viejo move forward with biomethane plant projects

The Climate Change Board of Daimiel released a statement denouncing the municipal government's handling of the proposed large‑scale biomethane plant. It accuses the council of delaying action, lacking transparency and possibly breaching legal duties to reject the project if it threatens air quality, odor, water contamination or safety. Professor Máximo Florín warned that a compatibility report is not automatically granted and that officials could be liable for prevarication if they knowingly allow an illegal procedure.

In parallel, the Junta de Gobierno approved the urban‑planning classification and construction licence for a new biomethane facility in Colmenar Viejo. The plant will cover 6,200 m², be compact and odor‑free, and will treat digestate for agricultural use instead of building a large composting hall. Authorities indicated that, provided all technical reports remain favourable, the licence must be granted under existing legal procedures.
