Labor disputes escalate in Uruguay and Argentina

Labor tensions are rising across several sectors in Uruguay and Argentina. In Uruguay, the Federation of Dairy Industry Workers (FTIL) has declared a national conflict following the dismissal of 25 workers linked to Conaprole. The union is considering measures such as partial strikes, work-to-rule, and potential disruptions to the national supply chain and exports.

Simultaneously, a long-standing dispute at the Terminal Cuenca del Plata port in Montevideo is nearing a resolution. The Ministry of Labor and Social Security has facilitated an agreement between the company and the union, proposing a five-year collective bargaining agreement. Despite this progress, political opposition in Uruguay continues to seek the interpellation of Labor Minister Juan Castillo regarding the handling of the conflict.

In Argentina, industrial closures are causing significant distress. The CLAPP factory in Jeppener is set to cease operations by November 30, resulting in the total dismissal of its staff and impacting over 30 families. Additionally, workers at Hilandería Fueguina have reported threats regarding severance pay as the company moves toward closure.
