Daisy Ridley to lead Paramount+ reimagining of Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea

Daisy Ridley has signed on to lead and executive produce a reimagining of the classic sci-fi series Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea for Paramount+. The project is being developed by Legendary Television in association with the Irwin Allen Estate.

Ridley will portray Lee Crane, an ocean scientist drawn into a classified government program following a catastrophic Arctic expedition that results in the death of her twin sister. The series centers on the USS Seaview, a retro-futuristic submarine discovered entombed in ice, which only activates when Lee steps aboard. As commander, she will lead missions to contain mysterious forces while investigating the mythical city of Atlantis and erased chapters of human history.

Akiva Goldsman is set to write and executive produce, while Matt Shakman will serve as director and executive producer. A writers' room is currently underway for the production.
