Daitoku-ji to host special exhibition on Japanese beauty and Zen culture
Daitoku-ji, a major Zen temple in Kyoto, will host a special exhibition titled ‘Creating Japanese Beauty: From Daitoku-ji to the World’ as part of the 4th Japan International Art Festival. Scheduled for October 24–28, 2026, at the Zuien-ken sub-temple, the event aims to showcase how contemporary artists engage with Japanese spiritual culture to create new expressions for a global audience.
In a related cultural event, actor Hidetaka Yoshioka attended a press conference for the ‘Daitoku-ji Honcho Muso no Zen-en’ exhibition at the Tokyo National Museum. The exhibition, running from mid-November to December 6, commemorates the 700th anniversary of Daitoku-ji’s founding by displaying masterworks from the temple. Yoshioka, who is set to portray the tea master Sen no Rikyu in the NHK Taiga drama ‘Toyotomi Kyodai!’, shared his interpretations of the historical figure and expressed his admiration for the Yohen Tenmoku tea bowl on display.
