Daiwa Securities posts 13‑year profit high; Mizuho raises outlook

Daiwa Securities Group announced that net income for the fiscal first quarter ended June 30 rose 81% year‑on‑year to ¥56.4 billion, the strongest result in 13 years. Revenue from equity trading jumped 84% to ¥28.7 billion, setting a record, while fixed‑income revenue rose 51% and investment‑banking fees increased 31%. The broker also completed its acquisition of Orix’s banking subsidiary, expanding its commercial‑lending business.

Mizuho Financial Group raised its FY2026 profit outlook by ¥100 billion to ¥1.4 trillion and doubled its planned share‑repurchase programme to ¥200 billion after a first‑quarter profit of ¥575.8 billion. The bank cited strong earnings, improved loan‑deposit spreads following the Bank of Japan’s June rate hike, and robust corporate financing demand. Both firms highlighted solid domestic banking profitability and continued investor confidence in Japan’s equity markets.
