Dominican Republic political parties organize for 2028 elections

Political parties in the Dominican Republic are actively organizing for the 2028 presidential elections. Within the Partido de la Liberación Dominicana (PLD), several aspirants are positioning themselves. Abel Martínez has emphasized the need for party unity and direct contact with citizens through his ‘Café con Abel’ meetings, warning that the party must win to remain relevant. Other aspirants, including Francisco Javier García and Luis de León, have also voiced their ambitions, with García stressing institutional unity and de León calling for a broad opposition front to challenge the current administration.

Meanwhile, the Fuerza del Pueblo (FP) is reporting significant growth. Party leader Leonel Fernández stated that the organization is building a majority for 2028, noting that the party has expanded its presence across all provinces. Supporters of the FP have defended Fernández against claims of political decline, asserting his continued active leadership.

In the ruling Partido Revolucionario Moderno (PRM), political movements are also forming. Local leaders in Dajabón have expressed support for Tourism Minister David Collado’s presidential aspirations, as part of a broader effort to organize structures ahead of the official selection process.
