Dajabón sees new Red Cross facility amid reports of jail overcrowding

In Dajabón, the Dominican Red Cross has inaugurated a modern facility designed to strengthen emergency response and services for the province and the border region. The new building, which was previously an abandoned property, has been fully transformed into an equipped space featuring improved security systems and automated access to support humanitarian efforts.

Separately, the Public Defense office has raised alarms regarding the conditions at the Dajabón National Police station's temporary jail. Dharianna Licelot Morel, coordinator for the Monte Cristi department, reported extreme overcrowding and unsanitary conditions. The facility, designed for approximately 15 people, is reportedly housing over 49 individuals. Concerns include lack of access to potable water, inadequate food, and detainees sleeping on floors due to the lack of space.
