Dajapón Fest 2026 Celebrates Japanese Heritage in La Vigía, Dajabón

The second edition of Dajapón Fest 2026 was held over the weekend in the Parque de la Colonia Japonesa de La Vigía, Dajabón, Dominican Republic. Marking the 70th anniversary of the arrival of Japanese immigrants who first landed at the former Ciudad Trujillo port on 26 July 1956, the festival showcased music, folklore, traditional dances, Japanese cuisine, martial‑arts demonstrations, a samurai‑armor exhibition and a Bon Odori performance. Representatives from Japanese colonies across the country—including Jarabacoa, Constanza, La Altagracia, Aguas Negras, Neiba, Duvergé and the Manzanillo fishing colony—participated, offering a chance for descendants to reconnect with their roots and share their culture with the wider public.
