Dak Lak police arrest man for nationwide rental deposit scam
The Dak Lak Provincial Police have officially initiated a criminal case and arrested Ngo Hoang Vu for “fraudulent appropriation of property.” The investigation follows a report in May regarding a 2 million VND loss involving a fake room rental deposit on social media.
Authorities determined that Vu created multiple fake Facebook accounts using stolen images of rental properties to post fraudulent listings across various provinces and cities. Once potential tenants expressed interest, Vu would build trust and request deposits ranging from 500,000 VND to 2.5 million VND before cutting off all communication. Police are currently expanding the investigation to verify transactions involving more than 100 victims nationwide.
