Dak Lak police prosecute family for smuggling illegal cigarettes
The Economic Police Department of the Dak Lak Provincial Police has initiated a criminal case involving six individuals for the illegal trade of smuggled cigarettes. Among the accused are four members of a single family residing in Krong Pak commune: Tran Cong Duc (65), his wife Dinh Thi Thu Hong (60), their daughter Tran Thi Kieu Trinh (38), and daughter-in-law Pham Thi Na (36).
Two accomplices, Dinh Ngoc Cuong (32) and Nguyen Thi Cam Huyen (20), have also been prosecuted. The investigation follows a raid on September 18 at the family's stores and warehouse, where authorities seized 876 cartons of various smuggled foreign cigarettes, totaling approximately 8,760 packs.
The suspects admitted to purchasing the contraband from various sources to store and resell for profit. Investigations revealed that Cuong and Huyen had repeatedly supplied the smuggled goods to the family. The case remains under expanded investigation by the Dak Lak authorities.
