Dak Lak records first dengue fever death
Dak Lak province has recorded its first death from dengue fever. The deceased, a male born in 1949 with a history of type 2 diabetes, passed away on August 3 following complications including severe pneumonia and a cerebral infarction.
Testing by the Tay Nguyen Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology confirmed the patient was positive for the Dengue type 2 virus. As of August 6, epidemiological investigations in Tan An ward have identified 49 dengue cases and six active outbreaks.
Health authorities reported a high Breteau Index of 77 in the area, indicating a significant density of mosquito larvae in water containers. In response, the Dak Lak CDC has coordinated chemical spraying to eliminate adult mosquitoes and is advising residents to remove standing water and eliminate breeding sites to prevent further transmission.
