Dak Lak rice farmers face heavy losses due to rainfall

Heavy rainfall in Dak Lak province has caused significant damage to rice crops, leaving many farmers with minimal profits. A social media post by a local farmer, Vo Van Duc, gained approximately 2.5 million views after detailing how his family earned a profit of only 35,000 VND (roughly $1.40 USD) after three months of cultivating 1,000 square meters of rice.

Due to prolonged heavy rain, the rice crops were flattened and partially submerged in water. This resulted in a lower yield of approximately 450kg, which could only be sold at a reduced price of 5,000 VND per kg. Total expenses for plowing, fertilizer, pesticides, and labor amounted to approximately 2.215 million VND. The reported profit does not yet include the cost of rice seeds.

Many other households in eastern Dak Lak have also reported heavy losses due to the weather. Local authorities have been providing assistance to help residents harvest what remains of their crops amidst the rain.
