Dak Lak specialist high schools admit students with as low as 2‑3 points per subject

In the 2026‑2027 recruitment for 10th‑grade specialist classes in Dak Lak province, Vietnam, several schools set unusually low admission cut‑off scores. Lương Văn Chánh High School listed a history cut‑off of 15 points (about 3 points per subject), geography 18.75 points (≈3.75 per subject) and information technology 19.65 points (≈3.95 per subject). Some candidates were admitted with specialist‑subject scores as low as 2.2–3.5 points.

Principal Huỳnh Tấn Châu explained that this was the first year the school offered history and geography tracks, and few applicants registered, resulting in lower thresholds. The provincial Department of Education and Training confirmed that the selection complied with regulations: candidates must sit for four exams (math, literature, English and one specialist subject) and cannot score below 2 points in any subject. Similar low cut‑offs appeared at Nguyễn Du High School, where the French specialist class required 19.9 points.

Parents and the public have expressed concern about the quality of specialist education given the low scores, prompting debate over whether the admission criteria adequately reflect student ability.
