Dakar 2026 preparations intensify through volunteer mobilization and security efforts
Preparations for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) are intensifying across Senegal through various civic and security initiatives. In Dakar, the municipality has officially provided 290 volunteers to the Organizing Committee to assist with welcoming athletes and international delegations.
In Saly Portudal, the National Police have launched awareness campaigns for local youth, focusing on preventing irregular migration and drug addiction, while also introducing the security framework for the upcoming games.
Concurrently, Minister of Hydraulics and Sanitation Dr. Cheikh Tidiane Dièye has raised concerns regarding the sabotage of sanitation infrastructure in Dakar and Diamniadio. He noted the unauthorized removal of drainage grates, warning that such actions could lead to flooding and waste obstruction, particularly as the country prepares for the event scheduled from October 31 to November 13, 2026.
