Dakar Youth Olympic Games Near Launch with Infrastructure Upgrades, Gender‑Equal Line‑up and Beach Clean‑up

The Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, the first Olympic‑branded event hosted on the African continent, are set to open in less than 100 days. Organisers are finalising major upgrades to venues in Dakar, Diamniadio and Saly and stress that the infrastructure will provide a lasting economic and social legacy for Senegal.

The International Olympic Committee confirmed that the Games will feature full gender parity, with an equal number of male and female athletes competing across 35 sports, including urban disciplines such as skateboarding and breaking.

As part of the preparations, the Senegalese Police nationale staged a citizen hike on 26 July 2026 that gathered more than a thousand walkers, while the Ministry of Environment launched a beach‑plastic collection operation on 25 July 2026 along the Hann and Dalifort coasts under the SOLUPLAST project. Both initiatives aim to showcase a clean, sustainable host city for the upcoming youth Games.
