Dakar police arrest accomplice in Public Treasury burglary
Police in Dakar have arrested a suspected accomplice in connection with the burglary of the Direction de l’Informatique du Trésor public, which occurred between March 1 and March 2, 2025.
The suspect, a motorcycle courier residing in the Rebeuss district, reportedly admitted to selling three stolen computers to an IT equipment merchant in the Médina area for 400,000 CFA francs. Following the media attention surrounding the theft, the suspect allegedly attempted to recover the equipment, but the buyer claimed the items had already been resold and advised the suspect to leave the country.
Investigators are currently looking into claims that the merchant who purchased the computers died of an illness in June 2026. Local business management has confirmed the death, providing a new lead for the ongoing investigation as authorities work to trace the stolen hardware and identify all involved parties.
