Dakar Rally location uncertain following Saudi Arabia terror attack

The future location of the 2027 Dakar Rally is uncertain following a major terrorist attack at Riyadh airport in Saudi Arabia. The attack, attributed to Houthi fighters from Yemen, resulted in 12 deaths and over 300 injuries, marking the deadliest incident in the country in the last decade.

In response to these security concerns, the event organizer, ASO, is evaluating several options for the 49th edition of the rally. While the current plan remains in Saudi Arabia, organizers are considering moving the route to the northern part of the country where security may be higher. A third possibility involves returning the competition to Africa, with Morocco being a primary candidate due to its history of hosting the event.

A final decision regarding the route is expected by the end of November. Professional drivers, including Carlos Sainz, have expressed hope that the event will proceed despite the regional instability.
