Daktronics announces restructuring and Irish plant closure

Daktronics, a US-based electronic signage developer, has announced a major restructuring plan aimed at reducing operating costs by up to $18 million by 2028. The company will exit the highly customized portion of its international transportation business, which serves rail, bus, and roadway customers outside of North America.

Key components of the plan include the closure of its manufacturing facility in Ennistymon, Ireland, which is expected to result in the loss of over 100 jobs. Additionally, the company will close its offices in Hong Kong and Macau and realign production across the United States, China, and Mexico. Daktronics also intends to scale down its microLED development efforts, though it will retain the intellectual property acquired from X Display Company to preserve future commercialization opportunities.

CEO Ramesh Jayaraman stated that exiting Ireland and aligning manufacturing capacity will help manage factory utilization, improve productivity, and facilitate automation. Vice President for International Markets Judd Guthmiller noted that the decision was driven by market realities.
